Photographing Liz La Point - A Love Story

We've had some moments where some high traffic, high profile sites have covered our work, by request or by their own selection, and it has been great to have the exposure. It is always tough when you create art and and get an audience, but don't always get the type of attention you are seeking.

Liz and I never went into our art together with a desire to be famous (that is actually the last thing Liz ever wanted) and so we laughed when last year the sites treated her like a celebrity. This time around the exposure is bigger, there is more traffic and we are a little more hesitant about the attention.

We take it with a grain of salt and don't focus on the negative remarks and criticism of Liz, my work or our collaboration in general. When you put your work out there you have to have a thick skin or else the rude or hurtful comments will get to you.

The idea that I'm some eager beaver photographer documenting Liz's every move is amusing, but far from the truth. I met Liz, we began working together and developed a fast friendship which became a relationship, and resulted in a major move, a child and us getting married and starting a very domestic life together.

Liz and I cook together, have heated debates about life, politics, religion and more, and we spend time raising our baby. She is in her 30's and I am in my 40's. We are young for our age and young at heart! We are too old though to play games or get involved in drama or controversy and it is one of the reasons we now visit the major cities only occasionally and have made our home in a quiet little town. We want a quiet life to make our art and enjoy peace.

I will continue to photograph Liz La Point for the rest of my life, and hope people appreciate the art in what we do, but selling books and memberships to Liz's site is done to support what we do and help us build a better life, and so that is why we bother promoting our work, not because we are seeking fame.

No matter how erotic or graphic certain images might come off to the more squeamish, we DO NOT make porn. Nudity in art is not porn, (not that I have a problem with porn as art) but it is not what we do.

We have a lot of big projects and cool photo shoots coming up. Our lives are busy but we are having fun.
We will keep doing what we do as long as it remains a fun means of expressing ourselves, and if it ever stops being that, than we will happily shift gears and quietly disappear into the near-obscurity we already live in.

I am still growing as a photographer and an artist and I consider our work my life's work in progress.
Thank you to all our new friends, fans and supporters.

A life of art!

Thanksgiving reminds me of how lucky I am to be here and to be alive, and to be living a life where I am able to create art with a partner and muse. It makes so glad for my little baby son of eight months, for the family I am surrounded by that loves and supports me, and of the people I have known and loved in my life.

Best to everyone this season, and remember that the material things aren't as important as positive life experiences.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Coming soon: My review of the Movie/Mini-series "Carlos" starring Edgar Ramirez and directed by Olivier Assayas.

Liz La Point.com Membership

For over a year and a half I have been working with model Liz La Point, photographing weekly sessions and building a healthy body of work. We put out a book of our first year collaborating in February and now have enough material for Liz's site.

There are currently over thirty galleries and hundreds of images (most never before seen) displayed in a simple and clean manner perfect for appreciating all of the beauty, grace and mystery that is my muse, Liz La Point.

Liz and I wanted to create a diverse body of work that would actually be worth paying a small membership fee for. People mistakenly think because there is nudity involved that we are making porn but we have been committed to creating art from the beginning and I think we have maintained a decent balance.

I love working with Liz. Photographing her is the joy of my life, and she has become more interesting to me with every session.

Neither one of us ever thought this would become as consuming and expansive as it did. We could not have known how our work would have changed us on personal levels, as well as our professional lives.

The site is a labor of love and is something I am very proud of. We wanted a simple way to deliver our work to an audience without being something other than we were.

Membership will be $10 a month and for that small amount you will get access to hundreds and hundreds of fine art images of Liz La Point and new photo shoots weekly. There will be lots of cool bonuses and offers.

www.LizLaPoint.com will basically be an exclusive treasure trove of artistic images featuring Liz La Point, who I think is easily one of the most beautiful women to have ever lived.

Camera Dilemma

For some time now I have wanted a Canon 5D Mark II, but certainly haven't had the money to pick one up. I have been shooting on Nikons for the last several years but felt like I was mismatched (not to mention I long to shoot with a full frame sensor.)

Since I am working more frequently and on a more professional capacity, it is time to upgrade to more professional equipment.

However, there are a lot of rumblings of a new Canon full frame camera coming out as soon as October.

I'd be plenty happy with a Mark II even if a new model or successor was released because it is simply one of the best digital cameras ever made.

Ellen Von Unwerth's "Fraulein" is coming!

One of the most amazing books I have ever purchased was the Taschen released book by photographer Ellen Von Unwerth called "Fraulein" but it did not come cheap.

Ellen Von Unwerth is one of my photographic heroes, creating some of the most stylish and uninhibited work ever while remaining in the mainstream.

"Fraulein" is a massive collection of her work and is finally available in a less expensive version for your coffee table.

Check it out!!!
